Baby toys have been known to be purchased by parents because they would enjoy playing with them! Sharing fun toys with your little one is fun discovery time for everyone!
One of the key things you need to look for when purchasing baby toys and books it the age range on the toy packages. This will give you a good idea if the toy or book is in the right age range for your child. Children develop at different rates so make sure you also look at the toy with your child in mind.
Purchasing developmentally appropriate toys for your little one will ensure that it is safe for them to play with and they will not get frustrated trying to figure it out! It will also allow your baby to naturally develop their love of toys and learning through play. During this first year, your baby will make many fascinating discoveries as they play with their toys. Their toys will encourage discovery, activity, exploration, creativity and lots of fun memories!
With little babies you want to focus on toys that promote active play (eye/hand coordination, muscle development, strength), creative play (encourage spontaneity, self expression) and educational play (thinking and mental growth). Here are some ideas:
Bath Time Toys
Babies love bath time! It is a fun time to interact with your child and have fun learning with water play.
Give your baby shapes that float or "stick" to the side of the tub.
Scooping cups are also fun as your child will use this toy to dump and fill and learn about volume.
You might also consider a bath bar toy where the pieces are hung on the bar and baby can easily take them off to play with and put back when they are done. This will also keep the bath toys out of the bottom of the tub.
Music Is A Must
Music is very important to the sounds your baby hears and mimics.
Find fun CDs for your baby to listen to while in the car or playing on the floor with you. Find songs you can sing along with that will help your baby learn sounds, counting, letters and so much more.
You will also want to find toys that make fun, interesting noises when the baby moves or shakes them. Babies enjoy being able to "do it themselves".
Rattle On
Rattles provide many different benefits for baby. These toys provide hours of discovery in all areas. A rattle stimulates auditory awareness, promotes eye/hand coordination, visual (if the rattle has things inside that baby can see), and tactile senses (if it comes with various textures as well).
Rattles can excite baby and make them laugh or sooth a cranky baby. Some rattles also have a "chewy" feature(s) that also soothe baby when they are teething.
A rattle toy also provides a first "workout" for baby. Griping the rattle will help develop their ability to hold onto various objects and develop the muscles in their hand and arm.
"Stuffies"
One of the most fun types of toys young children have are their stuffed toys. Now these are not confined to stuffed animals any longer.
